And a bully goes DOWN!

Ohio Mayor Mary McAngus has resigned after Police Chief Mark E. Proffitt filed a formal complaint against her following her harassment of a gay police officer.

McAngus hand-delivered her resignation letter according to Council President Jackie Welker.

According to Chief Proffitt, McAngus called Police Officer Kyle Calendine a queer and used other slurs.

Proffitt wrote in his statement that “McAngus called him into her office about two weeks after Calendine was hired. She said she heard ‘that Kyle was a queer’ and asked what the chief was going to do about it. Nothing, he replied, because that would be discrimination.

‘She stated ‘I don’t like a Queer working for the Village, I might be old-fashioned, but I don’t like it.’

McAngus also made it known that Calendine’s partner Harold wasn’t welcome to stop by the police department, though, as the Columbus Dispatch reports,  “family members of other officers routinely drop by with lunch or before or after a shift.”

Chief Proffitt had nothing but exemplary things to say about Officer Calendine, stating: “Kyle Calendine would lay down his life for anyone in need. This is a win for Kyle, for our department and for the gay community. It lets people know that no matter what, we’re all in this together.

Proffitt also said (clearly in an attempt to make us cry), “His partner, Harold, is welcome to stop by our department and have lunch anytime.”

McAngus offered no apology to Calendine in her resignation letter, explaining that the end of her fourteen month stint as mayor was “due to circumstances.”
