Lamar Odom is another tragic victim of addiction. When will we learn that addiction is not the problem, but rather a misguided solution?

The real problem is the addict has an inner wound of defectiveness created in childhood. Addicts distortedly believe the addiction serves as a way to make that pain go away. The common problems they face are from unhealed childhood wounds that have remained buried and eventually come back to haunt them.

Only when they permit the window into their past to be opened, exposing the negative core beliefs attributed to negative childhood messages, can they begin to heal. Without addressing the pain created by the wound, nothing will have a long-term and lasting effect.

Why would Lamar Odom, a man that had so much money, power, fame, and family commit suicide by installments?  It doesn’t make sense, unless you are a recovering addict.

Addiction isn’t prejudiced. It hits every color, all economic groups, and doesn’t care what your IQ is.  If you don’t act powerless and respect your addiction, you will then pay a heavy bill.  How many cemeteries are filled with addicts that said, “I can handle my addiction.”? Addiction is not difficult to stop; the difficulty comes from not starting.
