I know – I know. As parents, we like to think our kids will never even think about such things. We do our best as parents. We care for our children. We’re proud of them. Still, as they interact with the world, our children will be influenced by their peers and the people they interact with. Just as we did, they will have choices to make and questions to ask.

My son recently asked me what it’s like to smoke weed or “pot as many of us called it when we were growing up. Some parents would have yelled, scolded, and been upset. But I didn’t chastise my son for asking me the question. I was actually proud – of my son and myself. Some kids wouldn’t have been comfortable asking his parent about such a thing. But my son came to me. Our relationship is based on trust. I’ve established with him that even if I don’t agree with his choices, I will always give him the best advice I can and what I don’t know, we can research together. I can’t force him to make what I consider the right decisions, but I can instill in him the security that no matter what paths he takes in life, whether he stands or falls, he can always come to his father and I will be here with open arms.

My son’s question inspired the following video. Please watch alone or with family. What would you have said to your child? Please share this post with your friends, family, fans and followers via social media.
